A Fun Filled Day at Sentosa Island

The name Sentosa was derived from the Sanskrit term Santosha (संतोष), meaning “contentment, satisfaction”. 😇

Spread over 500 hectares, this exciting resort receives 20M visitors every year! Right from a wax museum to a theme park, beaches, golf courses, hotels and casinos – this island can keep you entertained for three days straight. During my family trip to Singapore, we spent one day at the Sentosa Island and truly enjoyed this ‘State of Fun’.

If you are travelling to Singapore, this is one place you can’t miss. Here’s my guide to a fun filled day at Sentosa Island with family!

Getting There

Sentosa Island is easily accessible by cable car 🚡, by foot via the Broadway 👣 or by Public Transport – a bus 🚍 or the MRT.

🚝👍 We took the MRT till HarbourFront Station, from where one can take the Sentosa Express located at the 3rd level of VivoCity shopping mall. This I feel is the most convenient way to reach the resort early and on time.

📸 The Sentosa Express ride is full of pretty views, so keep your camera handy for some photography en-route.

TIP: There is a shuttle service too which operates within the island and provides free transport to explore all the recreational areas.

Things to Do

Firstly get down at the Waterfront Station – the first station on the Sentosa Express & begin your tryst with fun & frolic in Singapore.

Walk to the first major attraction, listed below:

#1  S.E.A Aquarium

Come and explore one of the largest aquarium in the world, home to more than 100,000 marine animals of over 1,000 species! This state-of-the-art complex recreates 50 different habitats found in Southeast Asia, Australia and Africa.

The huge glass panels make you feel like a part of the ocean life and has a calming effect on you. This is an experience you will never forget and hence a must do.

👣  The next attraction is just a minute walk away.

#2  Universal Studios

A theme park full of rides, shows, fun activities and memorabilia based on popular films! Universal Studios is the most visited attraction in Sentosa and rightly so – don’t miss it.

The Mandatory Picture 🙌

Must Do: Transformers: The Ride, Shrek 4D Adventure, Jurassic World: Roar!, Revenge of the Mummy & Madagascar: A Crate Adventure.

TIP: Average waiting time for every ride is 45 to 60 mins, so plan your day accordingly and consider buying or not buying the express pass. We didn’t buy one and were able to do all the rides listed above.

Hollywood Dreams Parade takes place every day within Universal Studios at 06:30 PM, make sure you see it! It is a fun-filled musical parade with your favourite characters and their floats from Madagascar, Revenge of the Mummy, Jurassic Park, Shrek and more. This will definitely put a big smile on your face.

🚝  For the Next Attraction, you will have to board the Sentosa Express and then get down at Beachfront Station.

#3  Wings of Time

The perfect way to end your day at Sentosa is to watch the Wings of Time. This fantastical light and sound show takes place every evening as the last act, with the majestic sea as the backdrop.

With lots of laser lights, 3D projection, amazingly synced music, fireworks & fountains – this is a show not to be missed!

TIP: Food is allowed, so grab a tub of popcorn or some munchies before the show starts.

If you don’t really enjoy a light and sound show, you could use this time for some last minute rides, as crowds start thinning and lines start shrinking.

By the time you end your day at Sentosa Island, you would be completely exhausted; but I’m sure you would be full of magical memories that will last a lifetime!

Hope you too have a great time, like I did in the State of Fun.

Happy Sentosa!  😊🎉
